Do Metal Cards Work at ATMs?
Yes. A metal card from The Rich Card works at any ATM or payment terminal that accepts chip insertion, because it uses the same chip as your original card. That applies in the US, the UK, the UAE, Pakistan and wherever else you travel.
Real cards. Real machines.
Our metal cards work by chip insertion at ATMs and payment terminals, just like your plastic card. Watch them in use.

Why it works
When you insert your card, the ATM or terminal talks to the chip, not to the metal around it. You move the chip from your existing bank card into the metal card yourself, so the machine sees exactly the same chip, account and PIN as before. Nothing changes with your bank.
What works and what does not
| Payment method | Metal card |
|---|---|
| Chip insertion at ATMs | Works |
| Chip insertion at shop terminals (POS) | Works |
| Tap to pay (contactless) | Does not work: solid metal blocks the signal |
| Swipe-only machines | Do not work: the magnetic stripe ships blank |
| Online payments | Use your card details as usual; the metal card does not change them |
Tips for using your metal card abroad
- Insert the card chip-first instead of tapping
- Your card is standard bank-card size (85.6 × 54 mm), so it fits card slots like your original card
- Check the balance at an ATM or make a small purchase after moving your chip, to confirm it works
- For bank-specific questions such as foreign-transaction fees, contact your bank
ATM questions
Will ATMs and payment terminals accept my metal card?
Yes. Any ATM or payment terminal that accepts chip insertion will accept your card, since it uses the same chip as your original card.
Does contactless or tap-to-pay work?
No. Solid metal blocks the wireless signal contactless payments rely on. Chip insertion works normally.
Does the magnetic stripe work?
By default it ships blank, because we never access or copy your card’s stripe or chip data. Use chip insertion instead.
Which banks and card types are supported?
Any standard chip (EMV) credit, debit or ATM card from any bank.
