How to Get a Metal Credit Card
There are two ways to get a metal credit or debit card: apply for a premium bank card that comes in metal, or turn the card you already have into metal. Here is how they compare.
Route 1: apply for a bank-issued metal card
Some premium credit cards from major banks are made of metal. They usually need a strong credit history and approval, often carry an annual fee, and come in the bank’s own design. Which cards are metal changes over time and by country, so check the issuer’s own website before you apply.
Route 2: convert the card you already have
If you like your current bank, account and limits, you can keep them and change only the card body. You order a stainless-steel card in the design you want, then move the chip from your own debit, credit or ATM card into it at home with our self-transfer kit. Nothing is sent to us, and there is no new application.

Which route suits you
- Choose a bank metal card if you want that bank’s rewards and are happy with its fees and design.
- Convert your own card if you want to keep your bank and limits, choose your own design, or get a metal debit or ATM card.
- Mostly pay by tapping? A converted card works by chip insertion only, so keep your plastic card for tap payments.
